The government has provided excellent education facilities, and houses are well built to suit the needs of the people residing there. The thrust is, however, on strengthening infrastructure set up. The state and central government have, of late, begun to pay their attention towards this aspect of property development in Jammu & Kashmir. Upgradation of Jammu-Kashmir highway and projects to reconstruct bridges and other roads besides attempts to rehabilitate existing infrastructure facilities are some of the steps in this direction. Attempts are also being made to provide an environment for the development of indigenous traditional industries and to create employment opportunities for local residents.

Major commercial projects include the development of Software Technology Park in Rangeth electronics complex, Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Complex on the Dal Lake and commercial complexes at several locations. Thrust is also on for the improvement in infrastructure. Expansion in airport operations and laying of railway tracks are important steps towards improving accessibility to the city.
